ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) — Thousands of toys will be given away this week by the Greater Green Bay Salvation Army.
Around 1,700 families have registered to receive toys and food baskets.
“They will get to pick out gifts for each of the children,” Greater Green Bay Salvation Army’s Nicole Hanley told WTAQ. “Each family also receives a game or a puzzle, because we think it’s important to have something the family can do or play together.”
She says community support is paramount.
“We partner with the marines who run their Toys for Tots toy collection…they’re a big partner with us,” Hanley said. “We also collect toys, we have a lot of gracious business partners…we have a very generous community.”
Green Bay Metro Fire Department’s “Toys for Teens” campaign also feeds into the program.
The organization set up a toy shop in an open storefront in the Bayside Marketplace development in Ashwaubenon, it’s the first year since their former site, the Shopko Hall, was demolished. Distribution continues until Thursday.
