MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — Governor Tony Evers has denied a pardon for accused killer Branden Dassey who, along with his uncle, Steven Avery, were featured in the Netflix special “Making a Murderer”.
Evers denied the pardon, saying in a letter that Dassey did not meet any of the criteria used for pardons:
- It has not been at least five years since you completed your entire sentence for the conviction you want to be pardoned
- You are currently required to register as a sex offender under Wis. Stat. 301.45.
Dassey and Avery were convicted in the 2005 death of photographer Theresa Halbach.
