BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Former Green Bay Packers player Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila showed up to court on Tuesday in support of his two “brothers” who are currently facing several charges.
Jordan Salmi and Ryan Desmith were arrested on December 17th after Green Bay Police were called to Assembly of God Church where a Christmas concert was being held by students from a Green Bay Christian school. The school has since obtained a restraining order against the three men.
“I told the school I didn’t want my kids a part of the Christmas Pageant. I follow the bible and I am an Israelite and we are not supposed to worship any other god except, Yahweh,” explains Gbaja-Biamila.
According to a criminal complaint, officers told Desmith and Salmi to leave the church but Salmi refused. During a search, police found them carrying a semi-automatic pistol, a knife that was nine inches total with a 4.5-inch blade, and an extra magazine.
“The second amendment gives us that right. Article 1 section 25 in the state of Wisconsin also gives us that right to bear arms, ” says Gbaja-Biamila. “We were going to a place that I was a part of and it was welcome to carry.”
Desmith and Salmi each face three misdemeanor charges – disorderly conduct, resisting an officer, and carrying a concealed weapon. During their initial appearance, both men seemed to be uncooperative and refused to answer any questions from the court commissioner. Desmith was eventually given a $2,500 signature bond, while Salmi was asked to leave the courtroom following multiple outbursts.
“What happened in the courtroom was supposed to happen so we will see how this ends up,” he says, “Pretty much they couldn’t touch the men, my two brothers that were in there because they have no jurisdiction over them.”
Providence Ministries was also granted restraining orders on Friday, prohibiting Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila and two associates from visiting.
