GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The Brown County Board will vote Wednesday night on a proposal to become a “Second Amendment Sanctuary”.
It’s a designation that supporters say would send a message to lawmakers in Madison.
“It send a message to make sure that if they make any gun laws that they’re constitutional,” Brown County Board Vice Chair Tom Lund told WTAQ.
The resolution only sends a message, it doesn’t obligate the board to do anything.
“It was originally written that the sheriff wouldn’t enforce any gun laws put into place,” said Lund. “But we have to follow our oath as elected officials, and we could not impose that on the sheriff.”
Lund expects the resolution to pass, but not unanimously.
“I think it will pass the majority of the board as it’s written now,” he said.
Most people who spoke at last week’s executive committee hearing were in favor of the proposal. More public input is expected at Wednesday’s hearing.
