GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Record-breaking warmth hitting Northeast Wisconsin is getting people outside this week, and activity on Green Bay’s City Deck is no exception. People were taking in the weather, which reached into the 60s on Tuesday.
“[This is] exactly why I took off of work today. Because this feels awesome. I can’t wait to get back out there, I’m sick of winter,” Rob said. “In light of the year we just came out of, it’s especially nice to just get out and feel normal again and just get a little sunshine. We’ve all been cooped up for way too long.”
He was just unpacking a bicycle from his van to begin a ’30-40 mile’ afternoon ride.
“It’s so nice out. Everything just seems happy again,” Emily told WTAQ News.
Emily and her friend, Lucia, were out for a lunchtime walk.
“It feels normal and you get out of your house a little bit more, so it’s really, really nice,” Lucia added. “I don’t think we can take it for granted when you live in Wisconsin. You’ve got to take it in when you have it.”
There people were out looking for food, and others simply hanging out to enjoy a nice afternoon along the river.
“It’s great to get out and get some sun. It’s been brutal the past month or so, and it’s really nice to have a change of scenery here,” Will said.
“It’s a feeling that’s even hard to explain after this past year. It’s elating. It’s wonderful,” Judy said. “I think a lot of people have had it with the whole year, and so more and more people are going to go out.”
“I moved here a week ago, but when I got here it was -5. I could not go out. It was freezing, and I hated it,” Isaiah said. “I just like skating a lot, and I like getting out there with all my friends. When it’s cold, we can’t do that. We have to stay inside, and it gets boring.”
Isaiah lost his skateboard in the Fox River, which was flowing rather than frozen on Tuesday.
But as most Wisconsinites recognized fairly quickly, this weather likely isn’t here to stay. At least for now.
“It’s the false spring, man. Winter is going to be back,” Will told WTAQ.
“This just gives you the itch. You know that spring isn’t that far off. It might get cold again or we’re going to get snow again, but it still isn’t that far off,” Rob said.
“We’re not gonna be that lucky that this is gonna hang around. No, we’re in for a little bad weather,” Judy said. “I have a feeling that we could even get a snowstorm, because we’ve been pretty lucky with that kind of stuff.”
“I’m a little disappointed because I just found out it’s supposed to snow next week, but I’m gonna have cherish what we have,” Emily laughed. “I’m ready for the blizzard. I’m waiting for the March blizzard. That’s why I don’t have my hopes up for spring just quite yet.”
According to Fox 11 Meteorologist Pete Petoniak, things will cool off to the 40s for the weekend, but that’s still above the normal highs for this time of year.
