NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The nearly $2 trillion stimulus bill is making a second trip to the House for another vote.
If it passes, President Joe Biden could sign it into law later this week.
“Definitely it’s been a challenge, especially for our cafe part of our business,” said Melissa Lisowe, owner of Great Harvest Bread Company in Neenah.
Lisowe tells FOX 11 her business has had its ups and downs.
“Yes we were able to utilize the first PPP loan, so that’s been incredibly helpful for us.”
Of the $1.9 trillion COVID relief package that the Senate passed, it provides $28.6 billion in grant relief specifically for restaurants.
“Well the bill is out of the Senate and we anticipate voting on it on Wednesday,” said Congressman Glenn Grothman.
Since the Democrats have the majority in the House, Congressman Grothman believes the bill will pass.
“And how do you plan on voting?” asked Fox 11.
“I will vote no. I mean I see this inflation coming down the track. For the bars and restaurants, I’m glad for the provision.”
But Downtown Neenah isn’t just waiting for the federal aid. The Future Neenah organization is making efforts to bring people to restaurants now.
“Hopefully the covid relief package could help people in the community be able to support the local restaurants and businesses,” said Executive Director Nikki Hessel.
Hessel tells FOX 11 Future Neenah put on a “Lunch Bunch” to bring people Downtown. Those who spend $15 on lunch get a $5 Downtown Neenah gift certificate reward.
“To help during this in between season before we can really go outside for dining.”
“There are all of these good restaurants that are struggling to make it in the downtown and we want to keep them alive,” added Lisowe.
Neenah is hosting the “Lunch Bunch” effort through Friday.
