GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Older students in the Green Bay Area School District will return to class this week.
That includes Brook Andrews’ Children. She was among the group of parents who lobbied hard for the schools to reopen for the first time in nearly a year.
“They’re looking forward to something again,” said Andrews. “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen that kind light in their eyes.”
Younger students are already back in class.
“I left my house on Monday morning and when I came home that morning I just had to run a couple errands and there were kids standing at bus stops,” Andrews told WTAQ. “It’s just like my heart exploded with joy.”
While Andrews says she’s happy to see it, the cohort schedule, that has students in class only a few days a week, she doesn’t believe is enough.
“You can see the smiles on these kids faces, and that makes it all worth it, but it is enough? No,” she said.
Today, 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th graders will be in school for the first time since March 13th of last year.
