GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — There will be a new judge in the murder trial against James Prokopovitz, the man accused of killing his wife, Victoria, who has been missing since 2013.
Recently-retired Judge William Atkinson will take over for Judge Timothy Hinkfuss who broke his ankle in a fall on Wednesday night. Hinkfuss had surgery on Friday.
On Thursday morning, the jury was told Hinkfuss would return to the bench Monday, when the trial resumes. Late Thursday, however, the decision was made to have recently-retired Judge William Atkinson take over.
During a hearing Friday, Deputy District Attorney Wendy Lemkuil noted she and defense attorney John D’Angelo discussed the change, and both sides agreed to Atkinson’s role.
No witnesses testified Thursday or Friday.
