MADISON, WI (WSAU) — State Representative Bob Kulp (R- Stratford) says a ‘much needed’ bill drafted by the Dyslexia Study Committee he chairs has now been passed in both the State Assembly and the State Senate.
According to Kulp, “AB110 puts together a committee that will create a guidebook that will be posted online on DPI’s website to give resources for people who are struggling to read – and predominately in this case – with dyslexia.”
Kulp says passage of the bill culminates nearly two years of work on a bill that was long overdue, and truly needed in Wisconsin where reading scores were starting to lag behind.
“In 1994 we ranked third in Fourth Grade reading scores, and by 2009 we had fallen to 33rd,” Kulp explained. “And we are one of only seven states that did not have anything on the books – legally – to address dyslexia.”
The bill now goes to Governor Evers’ desk for his signature.
