Chief Andrew Smith (GBPD)
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith will retire in May.
Smith announced his retirement in a Tuesday Facebook video.
His retirement will be effective May 3rd.
Smith has been the chief of the department for the last five years of his 33-year-long career. He came to Green Bay from the Los Angeles Police Department, where he was a Public Information Officer.
“It’s been a really terrific opportunity and a terrific experience,” said Smith. “Green Bay is such a wonderful community. We’ve got great people here. We’ve got great men and women working on the police department. We’re made some really positive changes here and I think we’ve got a really great connection with the community here.”
Smith says he’s excited to see who follows him. The department will likely appoint an interim police chief while the Police and Fire Commission conducts a nationwide search for Smith’s replacement.
