LAKE WINNEBAGO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says that 265 fish were harvested Sunday in day two of the 2021 sturgeon spearing season.
207 of the harvested sturgeon were from Lake Winnebago, while the remaining 58 were from the Upriver Lakes.
A total of 34 juvenile females, 94 adult females and 79 males were harvested along Lake Winnebago.
On the Upriver Lakes, 9 juvenile females, 7 adult females, and 42 males were speared.
So far 475 fish have been harvested along Lake Winnebago for the season and 227 have been harvested along the Upriver Lakes.
The Harrison Town Hall registration station had the highest total out of all stations with 52 along Lake Winnebago.
For the Upriver Lakes, the Winneconne (Marble Park) registration station registered the most sturgeon with a total of 23.
The Upriver Lakes has surpassed 50% their cap for both males and adult females. The DNR says the Upriver Lakes season will likely continue into the mid/late week.
Along Lake Winnebago, DNR officials say the harvest cap “remains in the distance” and is unlikely to be met in the upcoming week.
The Largest fish harvested along Lake Winnebago on Sunday was 121.6 pound, 76 inch F4 female speared by Reid Crump which was registered at Grundman Road.
John Arndt speared the largest fish along the Upriver Lakes with a 102.1 pound, 73.8 inch F4 female at Indian Point.
The DNR says the F4 female are lake sturgeon that would be spawning this coming spring.
A total of 4,326 shacks were along Lake Winnebago Sunday and 389 shacks were observed along the Upriver Lakes.
