GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Jury selection has wrapped up in the case of James Prokopovitz, who allegedly killed his wife in 2013. Her body has never been found.
Victoria Prokopovitz disappeared in 2013. James Prokopovitz was charged with her murder in May 2019. He faces six counts in all, including multiple perjury counts related to testimony at a secret John Doe hearing, which was held as part of the investigation.
Jury selection took place Friday morning at the KI Convention Center. Brown County has been using the center for jury selections because it allows additional space for social distancing.
A total of 15 jurors, nine women and six men, were selected to hear the case, which is expected to last two weeks. That’s one extra alternate than the county usually has, and is a precaution in case jurors have to drop out due to health or other reasons. After closing arguments, 12 will be picked to deliberate.
Opening statements are scheduled for Monday morning. The trial itself will be held at the Brown County Courthouse.
James Prokopovitz was the last person known to have to see his wife on April 25, 2013. Investigators say Victoria was reported missing, but her purse, cell phone and ID were all at her home in Pittsfield.
Also charged in case was Prokopovitz’s girlfriend, Kathryn Friday. However, she died before she could be sentenced for lying to a John Doe hearing called during the investigation.
