GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Police still aren’t sure who fell through the ice and into the East River early Saturday morning, and it may be a while before any search effort can get underway.
It happened near the intersection of Main St. and N. Roosevelt St.
Footprints were found leading to a hole in the ice, and none were found going out. The man hasn’t been identified as of Monday.
“If anybody knows anybody that could potentially be missing or anybody who hasn’t heard from [someone], have them contact their friends,” Police Commander Kevin Warych. “Make sure we’re taking care of one another so that if someone is missing, they’ll come forward.”
Warych says search and retrieval efforts will have to be put off for now due to ice conditions and river currents.
Anyone with information regarding the incident or knows of anyone who is missing is urged to contact the Green Bay Police Department at (920) 448-3208.
