GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The state Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into how a man died while in Green Bay Police custody.
Green Bay Police officers responded to the emergency department of a local hospital around 2:40 a.m. Monday morning, where staff reported a patient was causing a disturbance. The 48-year old man was taken into custody for disorderly conduct after officers were unable to mediate and restore peace and order within the hospital.
Once the man was discharged, he was taken to the Brown County Jail. While there, he experienced a medical emergency. Officers immediately began life saving measures on scene and continued until Green Bay Rescue took over.
The man was rushed back to the hospital and was later pronounced dead.
The Green Bay Police Department requested the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation to lead the investigation into the incident. The investigation is expected to take an extended period of time.
The cause of death is unknown and the Green Bay Police Department is assisting DCI as they proceed on with this investigation.
