GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The numbers are in for the Green Bay Salvation Army’s Holiday Kettle Campaign, and donations were down this year for the annual campaign, the charity group’s largest of the year.
“Our original campaign goal was $1.335 million,” Marketing coordinator Nicole Hanley told WTAQ Monday. “We finished at about 93% of our goal, leaving us short approximately $95,000.”
Nicole Hanley says a late start to the Christmas season might be to blame for lagging numbers.
“Although technically the kettles went out at the same time [as usual], it almost seemed like the Christmas season started later,” Hanley theorized. “People, I don’t think, were ready, in their mind, for it to be Christmas.”
Hanley says that they hope to make up the deficit before the end of the fiscal year.
“$95,000 is a significant deficit, but fortunately we do have a little bit of time left in our fiscal year to fundraise,” said Hanley.
If they can’t, they may have to cut programs.
“We have all intentions of trying to do everything we can to minimize the impact on the clients that we serve,” said Hanley.
