GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Valentines day is tomorrow and for most people, that means flowers.
For flower shops, it’s their Super Bowl–and they’re ready for the rush that Peggy Schroeder of Schroeder’s Flowers in Allouez says usually comes at the very last minute.
“Valentines Day is a last minute thing for most people,” Schroeder told WTAQ. “We get busy the last few days, but we do a lot of preparation two weeks ahead of time.”
Kathy Benoit, a senior sales associate at Flowerama on Green Bay’s east side, says delivery numbers are expected to explode Thursday.
“There are a lot of order who are called in for delivery,” Benoit said. “I always laugh when they ask ‘do you deliver’, yes. Yes we do.”
Thursday morning, Flowerama had 100 delivery order. Benoit expects there to be at least 200 by Friday morning.
Benoit says that while the popularity of colors and arrangements varies over time, one thing never changes.
“The rose is definitely king,” said Benoit. “We’ve got gorgeous long-stem red roses, and of course roses in every color.”
Age doesn’t seem to matter, either. Schroeder says that the popularity of flower arrangements on Valentines Day hasn’t changed from generation to generation, saying she sees both young and old alike passing through the door on Valentines day.
