GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Both candidates for superintendent visited Green Bay area schools last week – and the process of officially selecting the person for the job is here.
“We want the superintendent to have experience with diversity, closing achievement gaps, have shown leadership in their previous positions, experience with being out in the community and getting to know the community concerns,” says School Board President Brenda Warren, “Someone who’s committed to equity. That’s been a big part of our application.”
The Green Bay School Board is now set to debate whether to offer the job of superintendent to either Dr. Sonia Stewart or Stephen Murley.
“Monday we have a meeting where the board will discuss which candidate we’d like to offer as the next superintendent,” Warren tells WTAQ News, “Hopefully we can make that decision on Monday, but if not or if we need more information it might take a little bit longer than that.”
But even once the final decision is made, it will likely take a little time before the public learns which candidate will take the reins as the new superintendent.
“There will be some delay because the person we offer it to has to accept the contract, negotiate the contract, finalize all of that. So it may be a while before we make that final announcement,” Warren says, “It’ll be sometime I’d say in the next two or three weeks.”
