FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – As Fond du Lac Police identify the man who died this weekend after being found in a crashed vehicle with a gunshot wound to the leg, the investigation into how he got there continues.
“Our investigators have been working throughout the weekend to try to determine exactly what transpired and led up to this incident,” said Assistant Police Chief Steve Klein.
The case remains active, and few details are being released regarding what exactly happened prior to 39-year-old David Posey crashing his car in Fond du Lac early Friday morning. Assistant Police Chief Steve Klein says it’s an odd case.
“It’s not something that we come across too often here in Fond du Lac, thank goodness,” Klein told WTAQ News. “You roll up on a typical crash scene, you don’t expect to find a victim with a gunshot wound.”
Police are still awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine how Posey died. That autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
The when, where, and why behind that shooting, or whether his injury played a factor in the crash, have not been released.
