KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — It’s been almost two weeks now since 5-year-old William and 3-year-old Danielle Beyer were found dead in a Kaukauna home on Feburary 17th, suffering from injuries police call “intentionally inflicted”.
The community gathered in Kaukuana for a vigil Friday night to remember and honor the children.
“I want to remind you that this is an open investigation and although we all wish to have the answers right now, we must remain patient,” Shari Van Mun, an organizer, said to the community members at the vigil.
Community members say they think law enforcement is doing what it can.
“It’s a little frustrating, but I’m real sure that the authorities probably have real good reasons for this,” Lenny Robins with Guardians of the Children said.
But that doesn’t make it any easier.
“It’s hard to not know what happened and how it happened. No child deserves that at all,” Sharon Holt said.
As law enforcement search for answers, the community mourns and is trying to figure out how to move forward.
“I want people leaving this vigil at the end of the night to go through that grieving process, at least start it,” vigil organizer Attalah Sinclair said.
Many at Friday’s vigil didn’t know Will or Dani, but they still shed tears for them.
“I didn’t sleep at all that night. I was just up crying. Because again, if something like that happened to my kids I would be devastated,” Sinclair said.
Kaukauna police provided basic information in a news release that day. Five more news releases have been sent out since then–all of them identical, except for the date.
In the releases the police chief, Jamie Graff, says, “I do not have any new information to release at this point,” and “I will advise when I can give further information.”
