APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Dezman Ellis, the 17-year-old who allegedly shot and killed 19-year-old Jovanni Frausto at the Fox River Mall on January 31st has been booked in the Outagamie County Jail.
The Polk County, Iowa, clerk of courts office confirms Dezman Ellis will be returned to Wisconsin to face charges. The U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested Ellis Thursday afternoon in Des Moines.
The Outagamie County Jail says Ellis was booked at approximately 11:52 p.m. Friday night.
Ellis could make his first appearance in Outagame County Court as early as Monday.
A car connected to the shooting was found the next day at a home in Oshkosh. Four people inside the home were arrested, but eventually released.
According to a federal criminal complaint, the U.S. Marshals Service received information the same day that Ellis was staying at a motel in Platteville, Wisconsin. Platteville police contacted the motel, which confirmed Ellis had checked in Sunday evening, along with his girlfriend, his brother and his brother’s girlfriend. When police searched the motel, Ellis was no longer there.
Authorities later learned that Ellis and his brother had family in Ames, Iowa. Based on direction of travel, it was believed that the two of them may have been going there or their family would be going to Platteville to pick them up sometime early Monday morning.
Prosecutors say Ellis shot Frausto during a dispute over a girlfriend.
