OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Visitors to Oshkosh schools will soon have to scan their photo identification cards to get past the office.
The district announced Friday that it plans to use the Raptor Visitor Management System at all schools beginning March 16. When visitors arrive, they will need to present a valid state-issued ID, which will be checked against a national sex offender database.
Acceptable forms of ID include driver’s licenses, state IDs, U.S. military IDs and passports. For those who do not have government-issued IDs, a school staff member can use any form of identification and manually enter the person’s name and date of birth into the system.
When entry is approved, the system will issue a badge that identifies the visitor with a photo, the date and the purpose of the visit.
The district says the only information the system will capture will be the person’s name, date of birth and photo. The information will not be shared with any outside agency, the district says.
Those who are dropping off an item in the office or picking up paperwork do not need to have their IDs scanned. The system is only in place during regular school hours; attendees at after-hours events such as performances, ceremonies and athletic events will not need to scan IDs.
The district has posted an FAQ page with more information.
