GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – School districts across the state are being asked to take a proactive approach to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Green Bay Area Public Schools is just one of many districts taking steps to make sure students and staff remain healthy.
“The safety of our staff and students are our top priority, so we are taking an abundance of caution, We went back and reviewed our pandemic plan from 2009 from H1N1 to make sure everyone knew their responsibility,” said Superintendent Michelle Langenfeld.
Langenfeld tells FOX 11 the plan outlines 5 levels of response to a possible pandemic, with the worst-case scenario being a temporary closure of all schools.
“We also want to make sure that we have learning options for students, in the event that we close. So our Teaching and Learning Department is working right now, recognizing that we have an equity issue and making sure all of our students have support.”
Langenfeld says the school district is using recommendations from the local health department and the Centers for Disease Control to make sure students and their families have the most up to date information.
“We are being responsive as we can to always be prepared. We are doing a daily phone call to make sure we have the latest information to make sure we take the precaution to ensure the well being of our students and staff.”
While the school district continues to monitor the situation, it’s reminding students of the important steps they can take to stay healthy like washing their hands and staying home if they’re sick.
The school district also wants parents to update their child’s emergency contact information as soon as possible.
