DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) – St. Norbert College is putting out the word, advising students to prepare to stay away from campus if they leave for spring break next week.
Because of the coronavirus outbreak, the college is asking students who leave for spring break to take home all materials they will need for the rest of the semester. The school is exploring alternative ways to deliver instruction, and it will be assumed that students have materials such as textbooks to complete their courses remotely.
Meanwhile, St. Norbert is also expanding its travel restrictions to cover areas that have widespread community transmission or are listed at alert level 2 or above by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
All college-sanctioned travel to or through states is precluded. St. Norbert is asking faculty, staff and students to limit their personal travel as well.
Any member of the campus community who travels to or through those designated areas will be asked to self-isolate for 14 days before being allowed to return to campus.
College leaders are meeting daily on coronavirus-related issues and their impact on the college community. Further announcements will be posted on St. Norbert’s coronavirus information hub.
This follows a trend at the college level across the state. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has extended its spring break and plans to move a majority of its classes online.
UW-Madison has canceled and suspended university-sponsored travel to countries affected by the virus. Chancellor Rebecca Blank urged faculty, staff and students not to travel outside of Dane County. Those who do will be required to self-isolate or self-monitor, depending on where they traveled.
