GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation hasn’t stopped the Red Cross in Wisconsin. They’re still seeking blood donations.
The need for blood on the shelves doesn’t stop, and supply issues could complicate things for the Red Cross if donations slow.
“To date we have had about 600 Red Cross Blood Drives that have been canceled across the country,” Laura McGuire with the Red Cross told WTAQ. “That results in about 18,000 fewer blood donations.”
Seven of those canceled drives have been in Wisconsin.
You can still go into a Red Cross Donation Center to donate. McGuire says it’s a safe process.
“We’re wearing gloves, we’re wiping down donor touch points we’re using sterile collection kits, and temperatures are being taken before you even walk in the door,” McGuire said.
You can find more information on the Red Cross Northeast Wisconsin Chapter’s webpage.
