APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson has declared a public health emergency because of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the proclamation, the public health emergency activates the emergency operations center, which implements a “multidisciplinary and multi-jurisdictional team to comprehensively address and arrest the potential spread of COVID-19 in Outagamie County.”
The declaration also advises residents to avoid large gatherings of 50 or more people.
Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna has also proclaimed a State of Emergency in the city – allowing them to request assistance from Outagamie County and the State of Wisconsin to address the expected arrival of COVID-19 in Appleton.
The city is directing additional staff and resources to response efforts by opening the Emergency Operations Center. The move allows the city to coordinate efforts across all departments. The EOC will ensure efficient, effective communication and cooperation with our community and other agencies.
Services will continue with some changes to programming and access to city facilities. Information on those changes can be found on the city’s website.
Residents should follow guidelines from the Department of Health and CDC to protect themselves and help slow the spread of the virus.
