GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The COVID 19 outbreak that has led to the closure of schools, movie theaters, scaling back of government services, and more, could have a negative consequence for those who never come in contact with the virus.
Health clubs have also been shut down.
But Kim Elsing, a personal trainer at the westside YMCA in Howard, says there are ways people can stay in shape until they get back in the gym.
“It is definitely manageable to keep yourself going in some way.”
Elsing a little communication is key.
“Look for ways to connect with either the gym you were connected with, or the people you were connected with.”
She’s staying in touch with clients via social media, offering encouragement and suggesting different exercises that can be done at home.
“Squatting, lunging, core work, using the stairway, your bottom step to do some stepping up and down.”
Even buying a sports cord and using it for stretching can make a positive difference.
“if you go on Amazon and order yourself a set of bands, resistance bands are a really good way to keep the muscles working.”
Elsing says if this turns into a long term shutdown the onset of warmer weather will help promote being active.
