GRAND CHUTE, WI – The Milwaukee Brewers have announced that Matt Erickson will return as the manager of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for the 2021 season. Strength and Conditioning Specialist Connor McCarthy is the only member of the staff that was announced for the 2020 season to return with Erickson. Former Timber Rattler and Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Hiram Burgos is the new Pitching Coach. Hitting coach Nick Stanley and Athletic Trainer Benny Arroyo are each scheduled to join Erickson’s staff this season.
Erickson, a native of Appleton, has been Wisconsin’s manager since 2011. The Rattlers have been to the playoffs three times under Erickson’s direction – 2012, 2014, and 2016. Wisconsin won the 2012 Midwest League Championship. Erickson’s regular season record with the Rattlers is 604-644 (.484). He was to manage the Timber Rattlers for his tenth consecutive season in 2020 but did not get the opportunity due to the cancellation of the Minor League Baseball season. Erickson did get the opportunity to help run the Brewers Alternate Training Site at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium last summer.
Burgos, who was 5-7 in nineteen games – eight starts – for the Timber Rattlers pitching staff in 2010 and made his Major League debut with the Brewers on April 20, 2013, steps in as the new Pitching Coach for Wisconsin. Burgos, the Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2012, had been scheduled to be the pitching coach for the Arizona Brewers Blue affiliate in 2020. He has been a coach in the Brewers system since 2018.
Stanley, a former minor league player in the Houston Astros organization, is the new Hitting coach for the Rattlers. He has been on the Brewers player development staff since 2018, too. Stanley had been the hitting coach for Milwaukee’s affiliate in the Dominican Summer League in 2018 and for the Rocky Mountain Vibes in 2019. He had been scheduled to be the manager of the Arizona Brewers Gold affiliate in 2020. Stanley had coached at St. Petersburg (FL) College and with Baseball New Zealand before joining the Brewers organization.
Arroyo began his time in the Brewers system as the Athletic Trainer for the Dominican Summer League Brewers in 2017 and remained there in 2018. He moved up to the Arizona Brewers Gold in 2019 and was slated to be there again in 2020.
McCarthy has been the Strength & Conditioning Specialist for the Timber Rattlers since 2018, the same year that he joined the Milwaukee Player Development staff.
