GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Today was the very first day that Wisconsinites over the age of 65 were eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, and things were busy at Bellin Health’s two vaccination clinics in Ashwaubenon and Oconto.
Bellin Health Chief Operating Officer Sharla Baenen tells WTAQ that around 400 people were vaccinated at the clinic in Ashwaubenon alone.
“We would love to vaccinate, between our Ashwaubenon location and our Oconto location, we would love to get up to at least 800 a day,” Baenen said.
That’s going to depend heavily on vaccine availability.
“We’re really subject to what we get for vaccine inventory each week from the state,” said Baenen. “So that’s kind of our rate limiting factor.”
Bellin, along with other healthcare providers, are starting each week by opening a certain number of appointment slots for patients based on current vaccine availability, and then expand the number of slots if supply increases.
If you’re looking for your shot, Baenen says you should book online if that’s an option. Phone lines have a tendency to be busy.
