GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Green Bay’s Schneider International Trucking Company is hoping to get more women to join their ranks.
KellyLynn McLaughlin is the company’s Women in Trucking Ambassador. She got her CDL at the age of 50 and since then, has been working as an over-the-road trucker.
“Why is this something that we thought only men can do? And [we think] they’re older white men, who may be overweight and don’t have great teeth?” McLaughlin told WTAQ. “I do think that stereotype is incorrect.”
She says she wants to help break the stereotypes around trucking, saying it’s for everyone.
“I was one of those people that took truck drivers for granted,” McLaughlin said. “I didn’t understand how come they were so slow and and my way sometimes. Now that I’m one of them, I want to share their stories.”
