FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Sheriff’s officials are recommending charges against a 16-year-old boy after a chase in Fond du Lac County.
Authorities say the incident happened around 4 a.m. Tuesday. Police received a call about a stolen 2009 Chevy Impala and the owner of the vehicle was able to tell officers the direction the car was taken.
A Fond du Lac County sheriff’s deputy saw the vehicle being driven on 10th Street minutes after it had been reported stolen. The driver of the vehicle immediately began driving erratically after seeing the squad car and the deputy attempted to make the stop.
The suspect vehicle led police on a short chase before crashing into a tree at the intersection of 4th Street and Fond du Lac Avenue. The teen tried to run but was captured by a police dog.
Authorities say the teen is from Fond du Lac. Sheriff’s officials are recommending he be charged with knowingly fleeing an officer, operating a vehicle without owner’s consent and obstructing an officer.
The teen’s name was not released.
