GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — You shouldn’t be afraid of getting the COVID-19 if you’re pregnant or are planning to be pregnant soon.
That from Dr. Jessica Leszczynski, a Prevea OB/GYN. She says there isn’t any evidence that the COVID-19 vaccine is harmful to pregnant women.
“There have been many pregnant women that have found out they are pregnant after getting the vaccine,” Leszczynski said Wednesday, “There have been no increased rates of miscarriage or adverse effects with those women.”
A lot of misinformation, Leszczynski said, is painting an incorrect picture of how the vaccines impact pregnancy.
“There was an article…in December that equated getting a vaccine with female sterilization,” said Leszczynski. “Lots of mom blogs devoted to discussion of this. But it’s not true.”
One thing that can impact pregnancy? COVID-19 infection itself. Leszczynski says that’s been linked to some tragic outcomes.
“The actual infection has been linked to more serious maternal illnesses requiring ICU admissions,” Leszczynski warned. “Also some adverse fetal outcomes like preterm delivery or stillbirth.”
Leszczynski adds that no issues with breastfeeding after receiving the vaccine have been found, either.
