GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Green Bay Packers are set to honor those who have been battling the COVID-19 pandemic on the front lines.
The team announced Thursday they will welcome about 250 health care workers, first responders and their families to Lambeau Field for Saturday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
“We are looking forward to welcoming this group of frontline workers and their families to the game on Saturday night. We are so thankful and appreciative of all they have done for our community during this challenging time,” Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy said in a news release. “While we cannot invite large numbers of these special guests due to the pandemic, we want to express our community’s collective appreciation for all their great work.”
The group will join Packers employees and their families by attending the game. The spectators will continue to follow protocols the team has set forth.
The Packers say they continue to take a cautious approach by not allowing large number of ticketed fans, citing ongoing high coronavirus rates. An announcement was made earlier this month that game attendance would be limited to team employees and their families for the remainder of the regular season.
The Packers also reiterated that an attendance approach to one or more home playoff games will be decided at a later date. The team secured at least one home playoff game on Sunday by clinching the NFC North with a 31-24 win over the Detroit Lions.
Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.
