GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Joan Zavaleta was sentenced Monday to eight years in prison for his role in a July 2019 drive-by shooting.
Zavaleta, who was 16 at the time of the offense and is now 18, was also placed on extended supervision for eight years.
Zavaleta apologized before he was sentenced, saying he was “lost” at the time.
Two others were also charged in the incident. Angel Vazquez, 18, was sentenced to 17 months in prison on a count of recklessly endangering safety. Alejandro Hernandez, 18, is awaiting sentencing, also on a count of recklessly endangering safety.
The three were arrested on the Mason Street Bridge following the shooting near the intersection of Biemeret and 14th streets. Police said 10-15 shots were fired in the incident. The suspects were found because one of the people in the area shot their vehicle with a paintball, which allowed officers to find the vehicle. No one was hurt in the shooting.
The mother of the boy who shot the paintball told FOX 11 the shooting stemmed from a fight over a 17-year-old girl.
