MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) After just 1,300 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Friday, the DHS is reporting a significant increase in new cases Saturday.
The DHS is reporting 5,033 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, or 53% of the days 9,443 test results.
The 53% positivity rate is a significant increase from Friday’s 13%, and is the highest positivity rate the state has recorded throughout the pandemic. The Friday’s numbers were due in part to low test processing over the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Although Saturday’s new cases are a jump from Friday, the seven-day case averaged decreased to 4,243.
The DHS is also reporting 28 new COVID-19 related deaths Saturday, bringing the total to 3,285.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 2,518,980 people tested, 380,870 positive cases, and 2,138,110 negative test results.
Health officials consider 306,770 patients to be recovered from COVID-19, while 70,753 cases of COVID-19 are active.
As of Saturday, there are eight patients at the alternate care facility at Wisconsin State Fair Park., one less than reported on Friday.
