ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) — The Green Bay Packers are going to allow fans into Lambeau Field this weekend…kind of.
About 500 Packers employees and their families will be allowed in for the Packers game against the Bears. Packers President Mark Murphy says it’s a trial run for their COVID-19 protocols and could lead to ticketed fans at Lambeau later this season.
“It’s an outside venue, and there’s a big difference between outside venues and indoors,” Murphy told reporters on Monday. “And when you look at it, we’re going to be at less than 1% of our total capacity.”
Everyone in the stadium will be grouped into household “pods” to maintain social distancing.
“This is essentially like moving their couch from their living room to the stadium,” said Bellin Health CEO Chris Woleske. “Except with a few extra layers of clothing.”
They’ll be admitted with mobile, touchless tickets, and eat food purchased at cashless concession stands. The plan was developed in conjunction with local health experts.
“The Packers organization is showing concern for the community by taking a cautious approach, said Brown County Health Officer Anna Destree. “Others can too.”
There are no concrete plans nor any sort of timeline for allowing fans back in to Lambeau Field, but when they do, Murphy says, it will likely be in phases and capacity will be set at a maximum of 12,000 fans. Lambeau Field seats 81,441.
