APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Trump supporters gathered for a “Stop the Steal” rally in Appleton’s Houdini Plaza on Sunday.
“I think it’s pretty evident that there is a legitimate concern [that] people have about what is going on.”
Outagamie County Republican Party Chairman Matt Albert tells FOX 11.
“Today is not about believing whether it’s true or not. Today is about believing it could be true, and if it could be true, why don’t you figure out if it’s true, and that is important for both sides.”
But local democrats say they don’t have any reason to be upset.
“What are you protesting and like is there any evidence?” Brown County Democratic Party Chairman Michael Moran responded.
“A lot of votes for Biden came in [the] early morning,” Trump supporter Anne Gara said.
“They’re going to come out with proof, and they’ve got whistle blowers,” Trump supporter Duane VanBoxtel said.
“If we lose Trump, we lose the nation, it’s that simple,” Trump supporter Jay Harris said.
“We need to get to the bottom and then move on like we did in 2000, because there are legitimate concerns,” Albert finished.
“If the election is not fair, my vote means nothing,” Trump supporter Carol Smits said.
The electoral college votes on Dec. 14, so until then, the conflict is playing out in the courts.
“They’re not going to lay out the whole court case in front of the media until it’s in front of the court,” Albert said.
To date, Trump lawyers have had dozens of lawsuits in various states dismissed or withdrawn.
“When the lawyers were actually confronted with, you know, the question of whether there is fraud, they say no,” Moran said. “I think it’s been documented, I know it was in Michigan, I believe in Pennsylvania as well.”
Regardless of election results, Moran tells FOX 11 safety is the priority.
“I hope they’re wearing a mask and practicing proper social distancing, because the last thing we need is to get together and quite frankly get sick,” Moran said. “We have the holidays coming up… to get sick and spread it to their family members.”
“People will be able to choose for themselves if they wear a facemask or not, and do what’s best for them. We’re going to encourage it based on health guidelines,” Albert responded.
“Again, we’re outside, and people can keep their distance and choose to do what they want to do. It’s a free country, last time I checked. I’m not going to tell people what to do.”
The Trump campaign has requested and is paying for recounts in Milwaukee and Dane counties.
