MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin nears 3,000 COVID-19 deaths, the state health officials reported Friday.
The state Department of Health Services reported an additional 78 deaths on Friday, bringing the total number of Wisconsinites who died from the virus to 2,954.
DHS also reported 6,473 new confirmed cases or 33.8% of the 19,138 total completed.
That’s compared to 6,635 new cases reported Thursday.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 344,945 total cases and more than two million negative tests. DHS says 266,280 people have recovered.
According to the state’s weekly dashboard, 71 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties were listed in the “critically high” category for coronavirus activity. Only Green County, along the Illinois border, was listed in the “very high” category.
The alternate care facility at State Fair Park in West Allis had 23 patients as of Friday. That is six more than on Thursday.
