2020 was anything but predictable. From the virus running rampant, to ag markets and everything else that created uncertainty in the past 11 months. Fortunately, dairy farmers have an opportunity to lock in some security with the Dairy Margin Coverage program. If you’re still on the fence or haven’t had a chance to enroll yet, you have until December 11th to pull the trigger. Farm Service Agency Administrator Richard Fordyce suggests that dairy farmers should “definitely consider coverage for 2021.”
The program came together by the 2018 Farm Bill and it gives market protection to dairy farmers when the contrast between the all-milk price and the average feed cost goes under a certain amount chosen by each farmer. Visit the Farm Service Agency website for more info on DMC.
