Every year the governor has a Christmas tree put up in Madison at the state capitol for the holiday season which helps support the Christmas tree industry, but not this year. Governor Evers decided that this year they’re not bringing a tree into the capitol due to COVID-19. This comes after the capitol was closed back in March to the public.
Normally the governor asks Wisconsin students to make ornaments for the tree so it can be decorated for the public. With no tree at the capitol, Governor Evers chose to have the students instead make ornaments that’ll be sent out to hospitals, nursing homes, and veterans’ homes all over the state. The theme of the ornaments is ‘hope.’
