PESHTIGO, WI (WTAQ) — The Peshtigo School district is advising families that it’s possible the district may have to switch to all-virtual learning at some point in the future.
In Peshtigo, students have been coming to class all year, but in an email sent to parents this week, Superintendent Patrick Rau says it’s possible that, with rising COVID-19 cases in the community, that they may have to move to virtual learning.
“We might be looking at time period of about 2 weeks where all students would be on a virtual platform,” Rau told WTAQ on Friday. “We’ve been kind of prepping for that that since we first started with students.”
Rau says that while things are OK, now, that could change if too many teaches and students wind up in quarantine to hold class. A similar protocol, he says, as the one they typically use during flu season.
“If we have to extend it for a longer period of time we would start bringing in different populations of students for in-person learning,” said Rau. “So it might [start with] students that are really struggling academically.”
Rau says that so far the district has done a good job with controlling the virus.
Rai says in person class has been vitally important in this district this year, and that staff, students, and the community are dedicated to continuing in-person class activities.
