MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — More than 40% of coronavirus tests came back positive Wednesday in Wisconsin, while 62 people died.
The state Department of Health Services reported a near-record 7,048 new cases, or 40.3% of the 17,472 tests completed.
Seven-day averages rose to 5,984 cases, 35.9% test positivity and 43 deaths.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 285,891 confirmed cases, more than 1.9 million negative tests and 2,457 deaths. DHS considers 214,469 people to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
As of Wednesday, there were 11 people at the state’s alternate care facility near Milwaukee, nearly doubling the six patients on Tuesday.
