APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Fox Valley breweries are banding together to bring Northeast Wisconsin a new opportunity.
Stone Arch Brewpub in Appleton hosted the third NEW Brew Drive-Thru Sunday.
Participants were offered more than 30 craft beer selections from eight Fox Valley breweries from the comfort of their own car.
“We used to go out to breweries and we really can’t do that anymore because we’re 70 and it’s too dangerous,” Appleton resident Christine Rueff said.
A drive-thru craft beer festival still gives people like Rueff the opportunity to shop local and stay socially distant from others during the coronavirus pandemic.
“We’re struggling. This is a really tough time for breweries and restaurants so we thought we’d work together and get the word out and see if we can sell some beer,” Stone Arch Brew Pub president Steve Lonsway said.
“It’s getting to the point where you can’t be on a patio or anything and I’m not going inside a restaurant so this is a good way to do this,” Rueff said.
“I really hope they do this all the time. It’s great for the community too I believe. The beer-drinking community especially,” Oshkosh resident Doug Oram said.
Brewery owners tells FOX 11 people need to continue shopping local, whether it’s in the stores, at the breweries, or in your car.
“We have our beer out in the retail market so supporting it that way, but number one first and foremost visit your local breweries, your local restaurants and help them out. It’s hitting our industry really hard,” Lonsway said.
Appleton Beer Factory, Barrel 41 Brewing Co., Bare Bones Brewery, Fifth Ward Brewing Company, Fox River Brewing Company, Lion’s Tail Brewing Co., McFleshman’s Brewing Co., and Stone Arch Brewpub participated in the event.
