GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Brown County’s 2021 budget has been approved — and it includes a tax decrease.
County Executive Troy Streckenbach’s office says the county board unanimously approved the $274.3 million budget, the first time that has happened in more than 30 years.
“Despite Brown County’s struggles with the COVID-19 pandemic, this budget plan features lower property tax rates, reduction of outstanding debt, and continued investment in our infrastructure,” Streckenbach said in a news release.
The budget lowers property taxes by 20 cents per $1,000 of value. the owner of a home valued at $200,000 would pay $795.84 in county taxes. Streckenbach credits the decrease to an expanded tax base through new construction.
Key points of the budget include money toward design an engineering of a bridge across the Fox River in De Pere, a second mental health clinician to help law enforcement officers and a system allowing home and business alarms to send information directly to 911 dispatchers.
