MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Manitowoc’s city council discussed the residency requirement for city officials at its meeting Tuesday evening.
It comes after the first Black alderperson is accusing the city of funding a secret investigation against him.
Investigators say Aaron Bailey does not live within city limits, and therefore can’t be an alderperson.
The city then had an internal, yet public, investigation on the claim.
“Not once did anyone question myself, or my husband, as to whether he lived there or not, not once. I find it very strange,” said Amirah Franzen, Aaron Bailey’s sister.
Charles Hess has been investigating the claim.
“What she told me is that Alderman Bailey does not live at 2205 S. 22nd St. He lives at the apartment on N. A. Street. She sees him coming from the house, visiting his family. These are her observations. She’s lived here for 10 years about.”
The reports will be placed on file.
