MARINETTE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Monday, the Trump Administration made it’s fourth visit to a northeast Wisconsin shipyard in the last 12 months.
“It’s been just a privilege to tour the Marinette shipyard,” Robert C. O’Brien said.
The President’s national security advisor is touring shipyards around the country.
“Thanking the workers and the people who are doing dangerous jobs, tough jobs, hard jobs,” O’Brien said.
On Monday, he praised American workers for rebuilding the military.
“The ship builders, the welders, the electricians, the pipefitters who are out here doing this great work. They’re the ones who are giving the platforms to our sailors and marines to go out into harm’s way and protect this country.”
8th District Congressman Mike Gallagher tells FOX 11….
“The future of peace through strength starts right here in Northeast Wisconsin. And that’s a testament to the hard working men and women who come through this yard every single day. I think in any sort of future vision for the navy you’re going to need small service combatants that can go places that large destroyers can’t go. And I think we have an opportunity to be building more ships here at Marinette.”
“We’re going to need two, three, four frigates built a year to get to the numbers of where we want to be,” O’Brien continued. “This yard has the capability to build two or three of them itself.”
O’Brien tells FOX 11 that’s in order to keep up with China, and other foreign powers.
A ship currently under construction will be named the USS Marinette.
“It’s a strong community, building the best ships, so I view the name as just one way to honor the hard-working men and women at Fincantieri Marinette Marine,” Gallagher said.
O’Brien also toured one of the factories at Oshkosh Defense.
