GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — A new interface purchased by the Brown County Public Safety Communications center is expected to improve response times when house and business security systems are triggered.
As things currently work, when someone’s alarm goes off, someone at a security call center has to get a hold of emergency dispatch through the non-emergency number.
This new system allows them to cut out the middle man, letting the security company enter info directly into the 911 system, allowing dispatchers to send help faster and bypassing the non-emergency line.
“If we can dispatch the call quicker, we’re saving lives,” County Executive Troy Streckenbach said Tuesday. “We’re saving someone’s investments and we’re just becoming a better operation.”
Not only do they anticipate the system improving response time, but clarity, too, is expected to improve. By allowing the security company to enter information directly, it removes the potential for miscommunication between the security company and the dispatcher.
“It’s not really going to change our response to any of their alarms, but knowing that they’re quicker and more accurate helps our guys when they get there,” said Brown County Sheriff’s Lt. Kevin Pawlak.
The system will cost around $21,000 and is part of the county’s 2021 budget proposal.
