APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Appleton SWAT officers were seen taking multiple people into custody after causing a short traffic closure along the 1500 block of Calumet Street around 5:00 pm on Wednesday night.
Some people might still have questions about the lack of information surrounding the incident. There’s a reason for that.
“An agency from another state actually reached out to us regarding suspects from a violent crime in their jurisdiction that they believed were in Appleton,” said Officer Meghan Cash. “It’s an ongoing investigation for them, so we don’t want to release any information that was not privy to a case of ours. So that makes it a little bit difficult.”
Cash was also unable to say exactly where the other agency was from, or the exact crimes the suspects allegedly committed.
Due to the violent nature of the crimes the suspects are accused of committing in the other jurisdiction, Cash says the agencies worked on a plan involving SWAT officers to ensure the safest arrest possible. She says the cooperation and information from the other agency were vital.
“It takes a lot of planning and a lot of other things that we have to consider as far as getting as much information that we can get,” Cash told WTAQ News. “And making sure that we are planning for any possibilities of any sort of reaction that would happen upon arrest…making sure that we’re thinking about all of the potentials that could happen before acting. It was excellent in the way that we were able to do that, and do it so quickly, to make sure that we arrested them and removed them from our community.”
No local charges will be referred as a result of the operation and police say no danger to the public exists.
Additional information about the case is expected to be made available at a later time.
