GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The CDC and state health officials aren’t recommending people visit haunted houses this Halloween season, but one popular haunt in Green Bay is taking precautions.
Green Bay Fear Haunted House still hopes to spook you despite it’s monsters behaving a little differently this year.
The actors are free to roam as they please… as long as they pass a temperature check.
“I have to wear a mask under here and we stay 6 feet apart,” actress Tamara Stockman, dressed as some kind of evil doctor clown, said.
Another big change is timed ticketing. This year people are reserving the haunted house for a time slot, to keep different groups separated. Van Lanen says the pandemic has made them redesign the entire Halloween attraction.
“To have scare points six feet from where the customers pass through,” Van Lanen said.
Tickets cost $20, but you can pay $30 and skip the line. There are only a few haunted houses in Northeast Wisconsin, and that number has fallen this year, as some have chosen not to open because of the pandemic.
“We’ve been following the CDC guidelines and local and state guidelines,” Van Lanen said.
The CDC says going to an open-air, one-way walk-through haunted forest with masks and physical distancing is a moderate risk activity. If people are screaming, greater distancing is advised, to lower the risk of spreading a respiratory virus. Indoor haunted houses are listed as a higher risk activity.
Green Bay Fear says it’s following the advice of health experts.
“Social distancing and mask wearing and sanitizing stations — we also have a dedicated cleaning crew,” Van Lanen explained.
“I think it’ll be a completely different vibe but I think it’ll still be as good as the other seasons,” actress Independence Jworski said. “Every season is different anyways.”
Organizers are keeping an eye on the COVID-19 situation in our community, and they say they’re prepared to make changes to operations, as needed.
The Haunted House opens Friday, Oct. 2 and will be open on Fridays and Saturdays.
