APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – As the temperatures begin to fall, people begin to think about the holiday season. For a lot of people – that kicks off with Halloween, and of course, trick-or-treating.
But what will that look like in the wake of the pandemic?
“We’re talking about Halloween right now in Appleton. Our emergency operations center is evaluating options and watching and learning from other municipalities that are also making decisions,” said Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford. “We’re actively working on this right now and we’ll be sharing updates with our community in the coming days and weeks.”
Appleton plans to focus on making sure all of the ghosts and ghouls receive transparent communication about safe ways to celebrate Halloween, as well as every holiday that is coming up around the corner.
“We have going on lots of traditions that involve gathering in groups and we want to make sure that our community knows how to do that safely,” Woodford told WTAQ News. “It’s not our intention at this time to restrict trick-or-treating, but we will be communicating clearly with the community about safe ways to go about that…and suggesting some alternative options for people to consider to keep the kids safe, to keep themselves safe, if they do choose to participate.”
The City of Appleton traditionally holds trick-or-treating from 4-8pm on Halloween. For the current trick-or-treating plans and times for your community, click here.
