GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The season is changing, that means colds and allergies. It’s the fall, that means flu season, and of course, all of this is going on in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It can make a simple sneeze or cough a lot more confusing.
Prevea Health is out with a new tool to help parents navigate illnesses in their children. The Symptom Navigator can help differentiate allergies, the cold, the flu, and COVID-19.
“If you say, ok, my child is sneezing or has itchy or watery eyes, maybe their child just has allergies,” Dr. Thomas Huffer, Prevea Pediatrician and the Executive Medical Director of HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital said Thursday. “If they’re having fever or body aches…it might direct them to start thinking about the possibility that their child might have COVID-19.”
The navigator isn’t designed to replace a proper medical diagnosis, however.
“Your child doesn’t have a sign on them that says ‘Hey, I have this particular condition’,” Huffer said. “This is just to give them a starting place.
The navigator lists the symptoms of each condition and offers guidance about what to do in each situation.
The tool is available at Prevea.com/SymptomNavigator.
